Overview: The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is among the top institutions in the nation to sponsor study abroad for its students. We in the campus Study Abroad Office (SAO) know that this is in large part due to the work of Academic Advisors who provide guidance to students who seek to earn academic credit for his or her experience abroad. During this Snack Byte, we would like to discuss how we might mutually support each other in our respective advising processes for maximum student success before, during, and after the study abroad experience. Some of the questions we aim to address:
When advising study abroad students, what are the roles and responsibilities for Academic Advisors, 299 Advisors, the campus SAO, and college-level offices?
What issues come up for Academic Advisors that SAO can help manage proactively during the SAO advising process?
How can SAO support the work of 299 advisors (e.g., advisors who review international syllabi)?
